Over the past 3 years, building a resilient supply chain has become a key point of emphasis and focus for businesses worldwide

A Harvard Business Review report found that 52% of global respondents still consider greater resilience in their supply chains to be a top priority. The number rises to 67% when we only consider businesses in the Asia Pacific region. This is hardly a surprise, given just how much the region has been impacted by COVID-19 flare-ups and cross-border restrictions over the last two and a half years.

However, while greater resilience in supply chain management is now seen as a key focus area, its implementation has been comparatively slow. This is because it is a long-term play, a capability that is built over time by implementing the right technologies and processes into an existing supply chain network.

Which are the critical capacities for supply chain resilience? Rather than a single solution that fixes everything, resilience comes from a holistic approach that impacts various logistics touchpoints.

  • Leveraging existing digital data is an integral part of achieving this. With the right tools, businesses can enable a better real-time exchange of valuable information between numerous stakeholders across their network. This leads to fewer gaps in communication, thus mitigating inefficiencies, and contributing to more supply chain agility and resilience from end to end.
  • Agility is also a key factor in building resilience across any supply chain. Most marketplaces today operate on tight turnarounds and dynamic consumer demands. Businesses need the confidence to adjust their strategies more quickly and effectively to cater to these conditions, and this can be achieved through more flexible transportation and warehousing capabilities.

Capitalising on available data effectively can help building a resilient supply chain across different phases of the supply chain:

  • Inventory management
Better replenishment, fulfilment and financial planning
  • Information management
    Smoother information exchange between stakeholders
  • Transport data
    Enhanced end-to-end supply chain visibility
  • Data integration
Unifying diverse or fragmented logistics networks

So, how can companies get started?

Partnering with a true end-to-end logistics integrator can be a strong first step towards building a long-term resilient supply chain. With the right inputs and support, companies can find ways to harness the right digital solutions and tap into a wide-reaching network across multiple geographies. Over time, this will help set the tone for both immediate and long-term resilience, supply chain agility, and market success.
